The Department of Architecture, KLS GIT organised design workshop by Ar. Ar. Yatin Pandya for students of 2nd and 4th semester from 26th – 28th April. In the workshop students designed, musorial ( museum + memorial ) based on an event, personality or phenomena guided by Ar. Yatin Pandya. Students created physical models of their design and open discussion was conducted. This workshop enriched students’ design,model making and presentation skills.

* The Cut- Fold- Construct (Geometric Forms Inspired) a two day Paper engineering workshop was conducted for II and IV semester students as a part Architectural Design Studio on 19.03.2024 and 20.03.2024 by Mr. Arun Desai.

* The session provided a overview of working with paper as material in form making.

* Students explored surface development of different geometric and parametric forms crafted from paper which gave them an opportunity enhance their creative skills which could be applied to Design studio.

* The sessions helped to develop spirit of teamwork and improve their concentration while working meticulously with paper.

*An informal Q&A session was also opened up at the end to allow a healthy flow of information between the Sir and the students.

“Brick Jali Workshop” was conducted as part of the Building construction & material- I subject for 1st semester to give insight of hands-on skills in crafting and traditional craftsmenship.

Students were exposed to different teaching methods for creating intricate designs using bricks..

The workshop was conducted to focus on the art of creating intricate lattice-like structures using bricks, teaching students traditional techniques, design principles in crafting these decorative architectural elements.

Live Case study and Design walk of a residence in Vidyanagar, Hubli designed by Ar. Sandeep Harpanhalli was conducted for I semester students as a part of Monospaces and Residential Design Studio on 25.11.2023.

The session provided a thematic overview of sustainability and green buildings, and emphasized on the concepts, practices and principles of sustainability related to build environment which they can use in their academic design projects.

Students got an insight into different building construction materials and how the various components can be made using alternate building techniques.

One Day online Webinar and Interior Design External Jury for 9th semester students conducted on 11.11.2023.

To encourage students to become aware contemporary interior design practice and get valuable feedback for interior design project. It help students develop critical thinking by providing opportunities to explore and learn about interior detailing at different levels and develop a greater understanding of the importance of Processes in Interior Design Practice.

Urban Insert exhibition – ADRIJA, within the rocks(V23) – Preserving Heritage and Enhancing Urban Quality in Badami

The students of 7th semester, department of Architecture, KLS Gogte Institute of technology, Belagavi had organized event ADRIJA, within the rocks on 20th October 2023 at Department of Architecture.

Objectives of Conducting the program-

The Exhibition focused on exposing the students to show how data collection and analysis of urban precinct to be done.

This exhibition explores Reading the City with Badami as a place to understand the heritage character in core areas.

It aims to sensitize people to the complexities of urban fabric and its impact on Urban Life, the exhibition displays the ideas, design solutions, and expression of students’ work on Badami city.

Chairman – Pramod Kathavi and other management members supported the department in organizing the event.

Principal –Dr.M S Patil and Head of the Department – Dr. Rupali Kavilkar along with the chief guest inaugurated the exhibition with lighting of the lamp and the exhibition is open for all on all working days.

The event was coordinated by Prof.Pavanika Patil, Prof.Prasad Kulkarni, Prof.Rashmi Pai, Prof.Omkar Vernekar, Prof.Rahul Pudale Prof.Vinayak Mutgekar, Prof.Ishwari Desai.

The Urban Design Exhibition ADRIJA documented the historic village of Badami, mentored by Ar. Vinayak Bharne Urban Designer Los Angeles, USA where students embarked on a journey to preserve the rich heritage of Badami while addressing contemporary urban challenges. The exhibition displayed the critical issues through data analysis and proposed interventions that enhance the city’s heritage value, livability, and functionality.

The exhibition was attended by 250+ students from department of architecture and various other colleges

Sketch walk by Priya

On the 20th of October 2023, an engaging event named “Sketch Walk” was conducted by Priya, aimed at promoting awareness of designing spaces that resonate with their surroundings. The event took place at Belgaum Fort, providing an inspiring backdrop for a creative exploration of architectural and natural spaces.

The event attracted a spirited gathering of 35 students from K.L.S Gogte Institute Of Technology, spanning across the first, second, and third years of their respective programs. Their presence was a testament to their passion for art, architecture, and design.

The “Sketch Walk” was an artistic journey that encouraged students to explore, observe, and sketch the intricate details of Belgaum Fort. The objective was to inspire an appreciation for the historic architecture and the natural elements within the fort’s environs.

“Dhvani”- Workshop on Building Acoustics and Design of Auditoriums by Ar. Anil Joshi

“Dhvani”- Workshop on Building Acoustics and Design of Auditoriums was conducted as part of the Building Services- IV  subject for 7th semester to give insight of Behaviour of sound in enclosed spaces. Students were exposed to different Acoustical defects in enclosed spaces and solutions by acoustical treatment by Ar. Anil Joshi.

The students were enriched with knowledge about the acoustical materials and their application in auditoriums in present scenario through live projects done by the architect.

The students were introduced to design considerations while designing open air theatres, auditoriums, theatres. It shall eventually help students in applying knowledge about building acoustics in design of open air theatres, auditoriums, theatres in Architectural Design studio projects.

The workshop was conducted to enrich the skills of the students in designing of acoustically sound spaces and expand technical knowledge of students in Architectural Acoustics.

A hands on workshop on Cost Effective Architecture by Studio Vanamu, Bengaluru.

As a part of 9th semester Cost Effective Elective, a three day hands on workshop from 9th to 11th of September was conducted by Studio Vanamu, Bengaluru , headed by Varun Thautam and Namrata Toraskar. The workshop provided intensive on-site learning.

Day 1 (9th September 2023) : Theory on Arches, Vaults and Domes was explained with demonstrations. This helped us to understand the structural behaviour of the members. This was followed by onsite learning of Rammed earth construction, Adobe and Cob techniques.

Day 2 (10th September 2023) : Theory on Lime as cost effective material was explained by the Resource person Varun Thautam, followed by hands on learning on site, where we understood the process of Lime slaking and mixing. Practical on Surface preparation for lime plaster gave thorough understanding about the whole process. Lime and Mud plaster finishes were demonstrated with various proportions of different components of plaster.

Case Study of Cost Effective Residence Project at Devanhalli was organised to give more understanding of all the theory explained.

Day 3 (11th September 2023) : Continued with the lime plastering practical and understanding process of burnishing. Case study Projects were presented followed by discussions.

The workshop gave students full understanding of Cost Effective Building Material , Building Techniques and their Application with hands-on experience. This will help to work and further strengthen the knowledge of this subject in the Elective Course.

“BAMBOO WORKSHOP” 2022

  • As a part of the Alternative building technologies studio, a one – day Hands on workshop by Ar. Veena Andeli (of Studio Vinami, Bengaluru.) for seventh semester students was organized by the Department of architecture on 9th December 2022.
  • The workshop focused on exposing the students to construction with non conventional building material using bamboo.
  • It helped the students to deal with site constraints and gave practical knowledge about the Bamboo construction as they produced two pavilions in Architecture Department construction yard.
  • The workshop focuses on the use of hand tools to create joinery details and binding techniques with bamboo strips to develop various forms and shapes.
  • The workshop demonstrated the footing, joinery and lashing details of proposed construction of bamboo pavilion at the construction yard of campus.

2 day workshop on Energy Efficient Design for 9th Semester students

The workshop focused on encouraging the students to a systematic study of impact of climate, seasons, sun movement and wind movement on architectural design, to achieve an efficient performance of a building. Also to calculate the vertical and horizontal shadow angles to understand the widths and depths to be considered for the designing of fenestration over facades and use of Climate consultant and Andrew Marsh website.
